What We're Doing Now

Join The Shoe Project in Calgary this Fall

 

October 13, 2021 – January 31, 2022

10 writing workshop meetings via Zoom 6:00 to 8:30 pm on Wednesdays

Drama & voice coaching in December and January

 

What will we do?

Twelve women will work with Calgary author Barb Howard to create a 600-word personal memoir about their journey to Canada. The writing component is followed by voice coaching with performance artist and choreographer Denise Clarke, and a public performance.

 

Are we looking for you?

  • Are you a woman (aged 18 to 80) who has immigrated to Canada as an adult? Did you learn English as a second language and are now at a mid-intermediate to high-intermediate level? (If you went through the Canadian school system, you likely don’t )
  • Do you want to tell your story? Are you interested in other women’s stories? Are you motivated to learn to write expressively and speak publicly in English?
  • Did your past career have something to do with language – therapist, librarian, journalist? Or the arts? For many of our members this is the case, but we work with scientists, baristas, nannies, cleaners, and stay-at-home wives and
  • Recent participants have come from Syria, Peru, South Sudan, Congo, Taiwan, China, Iraq, Iran, Bangladesh, Philippines, Tibet, Japan, Romania …

 

Participation demands commitment; the program pays $400 for the right to publish completed stories.
