Discover the Superpower of Stories

Announcement from The Shoe Project Board of Directors

After twelve amazing years of activity across Canada, The Shoe Project will be ending its regular operations on May 31.

We are proud of having been among the first to feature the ‘lived experience’ of immigrant and refugee women in story and performance. We know TSP's influence will carry on through the activities of its partners and many accomplished alumnae and we extend thanks to our staff, Cordelia Tang and Rhonda Risebrough, as well as to our donors, many partners, and devoted mentors. All the events and activities that are scheduled to take place will proceed as planned and all of our current obligations will be honoured.

More information will follow. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

The Shoe Project Turns 10 Years Old:

Our Journey Together

The Shoe Project holds writing workshops where Canadian writers exchange skills with newcomer women, enabling them to share their stories of arrival in and adaptation to Canada -- through a pair of shoes.

Our Program

Many newcomer women are professionals and leaders in their original countries but need to work on their writing and speaking skills in English to attain similar roles in Canada.

Our Shoes, Our Stories

Every woman has a special pair of shoes in her life. For those who embark on the long journey to a new life in a new country, her choice of shoes is not only vital -- it is also a powerful metaphor for that journey.

Let’s share more stories. Together.

The Shoe Project was launched in Toronto in 2011. Since then, we have added chapters to Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax, Edmonton, Canmore, Windsor, Brampton, and Winnipeg, and are now a registered charity. We are committed to providing a truly national platform for the voices of immigrant and refugee women.
