My Life During COVID-19

COVID-19 changed our life dramatically, starting with everyday tasks such as shopping, study, work, and travel. Moreover, this pandemic made us rely more and more on technology. For me, this pandemic brought lots of changes to my life, my education, job, and not being able to visit my family.

Before this pandemic, I was not into technology; I didn't use Zoom or any similar application. I didn't feel the urge to do so and to be honest, I prefer the face to face contact, not the face to screen. With COVID, everything is different. I started online classes. I had a job interview a few weeks ago, and it was through Zoom; it wasn’t easy, but thank God, it went well for me.

As a result of the pandemic, my study and my job are relying more on apps and computer programs. I am a full-time student and part-time employee. I am not able to visit my family because they are in Quebec. I intended to visit them during March break; however, everything closed down and travelling became hard, especially with the 14 days of quarantine. I had to cancel my visit, and I miss them so much.

COVID-19 has changed our routines in some ways. On the one hand, it is positive regarding work and study. On the other hand, regular tasks like travelling and visiting family are hard to accomplish.

Dolukat Niyigena has lived in Halifax since 2012. She is originally from The Democratic Republic of the Congo. She is a full-time student at the NSCC while working part-time. At the moment, she works at two jobs.
