COVID Across Canada: Short Takes

May 10, 2020

I can´t wait to hug my friends

Mariana Barron, Front Desk Supervisor at the Banff Centre, Alberta

Life in a tourist town is devastated. Our streets are empty, all restaurants and hotels closed, and we are missing the good energy that tourists bring. The place itself hasn´t lost its magic though. We are so fortunate to live in this place with breathtaking mountain views.

Taking care of my family is my first priority. I´ve been cooking what the kids like. We have Taco Tuesdays and Pizza Fridays. My daughter loves spaghetti tacos too. My dog is never alone now. I take him for long walks by the Bow River and he is crazy happy.

I am always thinking about my family in Mexico where there is a lot of informal commerce and they do not have the same economic support from the government as we do here.

At the beginning of the year, I made a list of books to read when I had the chance, not knowing that I would have it, very soon. Right now, I’m reading The Artist´s Way by Julia Cameron, which I recommend.

I pray for all those people who are affected in many ways around the world. But I stay strong and positive. I can´t wait to hug my friends and go back to normal. This too shall pass.
